Piriformis Syndrome
Piriformis Syndrome is a painful condition that occurs when the piriformis muscle (located in the gluteus) compresses the sciatic nerve. Sufferers experience pain, tingling or numbness in the buttock or pain down the back of the leg.
When the piriformis muscle goes into spasm, it is often related to spinal health or sometimes overuse of the muscle itself. Sufferers will likely feel neurological symptoms such as pins and needles, tingling and weakness. Piriformis Syndrome is very painful and debilitating for most people. Fortunately, chiropractic care is a very effective treatment.
The Total Body Chiropractic approach is to first, achieve an accurate diagnosis. Because the symptoms are often confused with sciatica, it is important that you see someone knowledgeable about the spine, pelvis and related muscular systems. Once we have a clear diagnosis, we will create a chiropractic treatment plan to get you on the road to health. Our goal will be to restore the function of your pelvic and spinal joints. This might include a combination of rest and exercise modification and chiropractic treatments. Myofascial release, stretching, and icing is also essential when treating Piriformis Syndrome.
If you are experiencing symptoms of Piriformis Syndrome, it’s time to call your Bend chiropractor. You don’t have to experience the pain and discomfort of this debilitating condition. We can help you feel better and get back to doing the activities you love. Your Total Body health is here.
