Myofascial Release

Sometimes ongoing aches and pains are due to age or lingering injuries. But sometimes those clunky, achy feelings are an indication of something deeper. If your running stride just doesn’t feel right or if you constantly wake up with a sore lower back, you might be suffering from myofascial restriction.

To an active adult, the symptoms of myofascial restriction can be all too familiar. Dull, aching joint pain, a shortened range of motion on the tennis court, or muscles that are tight every morning. The underlying cause of these nagging and painful symptoms is very often restricted fascia. Fascia is the web-like connective tissue that holds all of your soft tissue, including your muscles, together. In its optimal state fascia is elastic and flexible. When fascia tightens, all of the systems it supports are stressed.

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective therapy that treats skeletal muscle immobility and pain due to fascial restriction. Gentle, sustained pressure relaxes contracted muscles, improves blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulates the stretch reflex in muscles. Your Bend chiropractor will apply pressure to one specific area for at least a minute to two minutes until the body releases the restriction on its own. As the restriction releases, you might experience spontaneous movements also called “unwinding.”

When you work out the restrictions in your fascia, you will be stronger and your pain will decrease. In addition, your flexibility will improve helping you to avoid future injury.
